Lessig Chp. 6-8

I really liked Lessig's section about the three successes from the internet. Amazon, Google, and Netflix are definitely the biggest names out there right now. Though Netflix is fading fast, it still made a huge impact on the internet before they decided to change their prices. He really touches on the fact that these giants have become what they are today due to the fact that they allow regular people to have an input in their companies. No matter how big they are, they are still a personal company that people love.
I also liked his section on Wikipedia. Since this site is used by basically everyone at least once a day, it's important to notice what a difference it's made on us. Though it's not a "credible" source, they are good at making everything pretty much legit and correct. It helps us have the information we need or are curious about at the quick click of a mouse.

  1. I agree with your argument, I also think it is really interesting that these big companies are the ones that are letting "regular" people to have an input in their companies, and in turn these companies are the most successful. I think it is interesting to about the connections between companies and the public and how both parties can work off each other to make the world better.

  2. I think Lessig mentions the names of Netflix, Amazon, and Google because of the way that they've re-shaped the economy and the way that the majority of people shop. They've allowed people to shop and/or rent movies with much more ease than they've ever been able to and that has changed how people view shopping, the economy, and how businesses are run.

  3. Netflix, I agree, is also fading fast. Luckily I don't have to pay for it because I don't have it, but I would be mad if I was one of their customers and their prices went up on me like that. But, like you said, they do listen to their customers input, so maybe this will make them to decide to come back down somewhere near their original price. I liked his section on Wikipedia as well, and how he mentioned that this makes people feel like they have a place, and are connected with one another. Its like a group of people coming together to try to piece together accurate information for the rest of the web to see.

  4. I also liked that he mentioned those big names. I think he makes it relevant to a younger population because we are participating in the economy and ultimately most of my participation as a college student happens with online websites either shopping or ordering services such as Netflix. I think that our economy would be so different if the internet was not such a big part of our society. This brings me back to ancient times when Native Americans did not even have a money system for their economy yet they would simply barter for the goods and service they needed. Now we can order every good and service we need and have it delivered to our door in 3-5 business days! Pretty crazy how times change.
